G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra

I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t even mention G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra this week and apparently I’m a liar, by some weird stroke of serendipity  G.I. Joe is receiving rather positive reviews. So, it appears that I’m going to have to eat humble pie and conduct a review. Now don’t get me wrong, but I find the mere premise of a G.I. Joe movie rather silly. For one thing let me declare it now and forever more- I was and still am a He-Man fan. But I digress, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra.

By most indications, Director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, The Mummy II) is hoping his star studded cast will impress you enough to entice you to see his latest in a long string of action- packed, special effects enhanced movies. And I must admit, if all you’re looking for is CGI then G.I.Joe is certainly the film for you. The plot (what little there is of it) follows an elite group of soldiers who employ state of the art technology to circumvent mayhem and chaos by a mysterious organization known as COBRA.

If you’re contemplating seeing the movie just because it has received positive ratings (an 80) from Rotten Tomatoes, let me just warn you that the ratings are based on  limited reviews as Paramount decided to not permit a review of the film by any critics. I sincerely doubt that I’ll be watching a movie based on a Hasbro Toy collection. However, that said, I wouldn’t be too surprised if it was the top earning movie of the week- after all look how well G-Force did!

Starring Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller,Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rachel Nichols, Marlon Wayans and Joseph Gordin-Levitt; G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra opens in theaters everywhere August 7th.
