Built To Spill
Built To Spill

Once hailed as one of the most popular indie rock acts of the early 90’s, Built to Spill is back with their latest musical endeavor, There Is No Enemy. If you aren’t familiar with the group (because I certainly wasn’t) their sound rests somewhere between postmodern, Pavement-style pop and the jam band sessions of Neil Young. Fans of this indie band will be ecstatic to hear that this new album, truly features the laborious efforts of lead singer/guitarist/song-writer Doug Martsch who had to “undigitally remix the record” because the first live takes lacked their trademark discordant tone and feel.

There Is No Enemy is a quirky, discordant, indie album that is somehow ambient in nature. Though a tad banal but still entertaining, if Built To Spill is your cup of tea then you should be in indie band heaven. There Is No Enemy is available 10/06/09.

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore

Courtesy of ScreenCrave, Drew Barrymore discusses her directorial debut Whip It, which looks promising.

Drew Barrymore jumps in front and behind the camera for her directorial debut highlighting the true essence of girl power, bruises and all, in her film Whip It starring Ellen Page, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis, Alia Shawkat, Marcia Gay Harden and Barrymore herself.

One thing we know about Barrymore is that she has been in the business her entire life and has a true passion for films. With all of her experience, it is about time that she finally made a film the way that she wanted to, without any cheesy love scenes and that deals with real issues in a real way. One thing is for she, she has created a film that beautifully and gracefully kicks ass.

Check out what she had to say about making her first film below…

Ed Westwick

Ed Westwick

Ok, I know it’s not a nice thing to say about anyone but WTF is up with Ed Westwick? Does anyone have a problem with his face or is it just me? I don’t know the guy, never met him or know anyone who has but there’s a smugness that seems to ooze out of his pores and it pervades everything. People, he incites me to violence, I want to organize a mob of torch wielding villagers to find him and make sure that he never affects my reverie ever again!

Whip It

Whip It

Let me let you in on a secret, I think I’m going to go see Whip It! I don’t know exactly why, perhaps it’s because I got so bored of Drew Barrymore during the Charlies Angels era but recently shes been generating a lot of buzz for her directorial debuts. Whip It tells the story of a small town misfit who is often subjected to the dreary pageants that her aging mother vicariously lives through. That is until she realizes she joins a roller derby gang and breaks out of the mundane existence that society imposes on her. Its a FoxSearch Light picture so its quirky and appears entertaining enough.

Directed by Drew Barrymore and starring Drew Barrymore, Ellen Page, Marcia Gay Hayden, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis, Alia Shawkat, Eve and Jimmy Fallon. Whip It opens in select theaters  10/02/09.
