Nia Long

It’s actually good to know that Nia Long is still around and she obviously has a few issues about actresses that she wants to get off her chest. In a recent interview, Nia had this to say about the lack of reputable female talent in the movie industry:

“I didn’t see ‘Obsessed,’ so I can’t comment, but it’s just not about how talented you are anymore. It’s about, ‘How much box-office revenue will this person generate?’ When you see certain people – we won’t name names – they just don’t have the skill, and no one in their team has said, ‘You need acting classes.”

This practice has been going on forever, that’s why I make it a point not to  see most mainstream films because of the often atrocious casting choices. Yes, I’ve been campaigning for Harry Potter because I actually enjoy the series and it’s got an amazing cast! I assume it must be extremely frustrating for actual actors when dilettantes attempt the cross-over.

A lot of people are misinterpreting her statement because she chose to use Obsessed as an example. But let’s call a spade a spade, Beyonce was one of those dilettantes, but she’s gotten  infinitely better. Welcome back Nia!
