• Though Irish, his father insisted that he acquire British citizenship, this would proof necessary for his knighting in 1998.
• He has stepped in twice to take scenes over for the late Richard Harris.
• He is notoriously reticent about giving interviews.
• Gambon is notoriously mischievous and likes shocking interviewers, when asked if he had problems with playing a gay character he responded “saying it was easy because he used to be a homosexual but was forced to quit because it made his eyes water”.
• He is an avid collector of antique guns, time pieces and classic cars.
