Light

I love anyone who defies convention and few artistes do it as sublimely as Matisyahu. Ever since he burst onto the scene in 1994, I’ve been sold.There are few musicians out there as original and distinct as Matisyahu- as far as I’m concerned the man is a musical genius. Few have managed to successfully bridge diverse cultures, religion and opinions in a manner that this rapping Hasidic Jew of the black suit topped with a broad-brimmed black hat worn over a yarmulke has.

Matisyahu is back with Light and all I have to say is  I’ve had the album on repeat ever since I heard it. Light is for lack of a better description  “fucking brilliant“. As with all things Matisyahu, the album is a homage to the glories of traditional Judaism and features some of his  trademark reggae and dancehall beats. However, Matisyahu has branched out, making what I believe is one of the most diverse genre blending albums that I’ve heard in a long time. Sometimes reggae, sometimes rock, Light is an intellectual and musical tour de force. This is a MUST HAVE album- Soundtrack of your life worthy!!! Light is available August 25th.
