WARNING: Antichrist contains some of the most explicit scenes out side hardcore pornography that you’ve seen this year! Without a doubt one of the darkest films of the year, Lars Von Trier’s (Nocturne, The Element of Crime, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Manderlay, and The Boss of It All) Antichrist is generating immense speculation (basically, everything you read on the poster is true). Cinephiles every where have always known that Trier has a warped imagination- something that he re-asserts with one of the most graphic and warped films that you will see this year. Antichrist tells the story of:
A couple lose their young son when he falls out the window while they have sex in the other room. The mother’s grief consigns her to hospital, but her therapist husband brings her home intent on treating her depression himself. To confront her fears they go to stay at their remote cabin in the woods, “Eden”, where something untold happened the previous summer. Told in four chapters with a prologue and epilogue, the film details acts of lustful cruelty as the man and woman unfold the darker side of nature outside and within.

Now, I’m used to some sick shit but these trailers (particularly the second one) were enough to leave me a bit disturbed. Charlotte Gainsbourg’s performance already won her a Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Palm nomination for Trier. Willem Dafoe is nothing short of stupendous- probably one of the best and most visceral examples of acting in recent times. Antichrist opens in select theatres October 23rd.
