Hillary Rodham Clinton

Hillary Rodham Clinton

Did Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have a testy moment during her press conference in the Democratic Republic of Congo? Yes. Was her behavior justified? Somewhat. Let’s examine the facts here: Hillary Rodham Clinton has amply proven that she is a force to be reckoned with- incredibly intelligent, shrewd and yet despite her political ascension she is still often regarded as Mrs. Clinton. Can’t help that former President Bill Clinton successfully managed to secure the release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee last week.

Can you  imagine how annoying it must be to be continuously relegated to a subordinate position despite your concerted efforts? Hence, I find it hardly surprising that she bristled when a student (erroneously- apparently he wanted President Obama’s opinion- lost in translation) asked what her husband’s opinion was on the presence of China in the war torn state.

There’s no denying it Madam Secretary; your retort will remain forever in infamy- truth be told it wasn’t that bad but boy was it cold! Secretaties of State have done and said a whole lot worse as these things go but it bodes well to adhere to the pithy maxim- “diplomacy is to say and do, the nastiest things in the nicest way”.

Of course, maybe we’re all wrong about her being irritated by the focus on her husband. Perhaps Hillary was uncomfortable because the presence of China in Africa was (consciously or unconsciously) overlooked during the Clinton Administration. After all, President Clinton had ample oppurtunity to curtail the Chinese government based on their human rights violations but chose not to and extended them the “Most Favored Nation” position in regards to trade. Just a thought…

Either way, this is being taken too far, there are more pertinent issues at hand than a harsh retort!
