Basement Jaxx

God, I forgot how wicked Basement Jaxx is, thank you for reminding me!!! Imagining hanging out with “Elaine”, watching this video, tripping and dancing! Thats exactly what I’m going to do! in further Basement Jaxx related news, the group is set to feature Mercury winner Speech Debelle on their upcoming UK tour.

Make sure to check out Speech who raps accompanied by acid jazz and some of the most funky sounds you’ll ever hear. As for me, I’m putting Scars on repeat.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan

How do I put this delicately? Lindsay Lohan needs help- and I’m usually the last person to pass judgment (who am I kidding) but when you’re pictured looking as atrocious as this, you need to put down the bottle and the straw and seek some help. I draw the line at partying when it makes you look like a distant cousin of Gollum!

Rufus Wainwright

Rufus Wainwright

Words can’t even begin to describe how I feel about Rufus Wainwright and his music- its simply transcendent! Wainwright, who is a virtuoso in every sense of the word had previously discussed his fascination with opera. Well, Rufus Wainwright has certainly put his money where his mouth is with Prima Donna - his debut classical opera which is influenced by maestros such as  “Puccini and Ravel” and  arias, duets, and romantic melodies.

According to an interview with  Billboard, Wainwright had this to say about his latest foray

Opera is my religion. As a fourteen-year-old, he became enchanted by opera. “That’s all I could listen to, and that’s all that I could comprehend. It gave me all that I needed at that time, and still does in many ways,” he said. “Writing this opera was as if I were writing a mass or a prayer to my gods. It was a very spiritual experience for me.”

“The whole [opera] arrived in one fell swoop. It was a complete vision,” he said. “I knew that it would be written, and I knew that it would be successful, and I knew that somehow, mysteriously, it would rise.”

Prima Donna will debut at the New York City Opera’s opening night on November 5. I’ll certainly be there. Brava!!!

Prince

Prince

There are very few women out there, much less men who are as confident in themselves and their sexuality as Prince obviously is. Jesus Christ, talk about taking androgyny to not just another level but on another realm. Here’s to you Prince, you’re certainly a badass mofo!! Oh, and the beauthy accompanying is his alleged new girlfriend.

Have to admit that I was more than pleasantly surprised with London based pop group Noah and the Whale- Charlie Fink (vocals, guitar, harmonica, ukulele), Tom Hobden (fiddle), Urby (harmonium, bass), Laura Marling (backing vocals), and Doug Fink (drums). A significant part of the album  was very reminiscent of Sigur Ros- just hauntingly beautiful and [...]

If elves did acid, this is what they would sound like. Spells, the debut album of The Happy Hollows and which was a joint effort between the band and Postal Service is a portal to some of the most unusual music that I’ve heard in recent years. The album is a trip in every sense [...]

This Is Us had some potential of being a decent pop album predominantly because it featured the expertise of professionals such as T-Pain, Max Martin, RedOne (Lady GaGa’s ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Poker Face’), Soulshock and Karlin, Jim Jonsin ((Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’, T.I.’s ‘Whatever You Like’), Brian Kennedy (Rihanna’s ‘Disturbia’, Chris Brown’s ‘Forever’, Jennifer Hudson), and [...]

The Cinematics are back with a vengeance! Love and Terror has got to be one of the catchiest, head bobbing, rock albums that you’ve heard this year. One thing is for certain; having their former label file for bankruptcy certainly gave these lads from Scotland the creative impetus and freedom to make some of the [...]
